Option 1: Find a Physician
Option 2: Other known GERD experts
Don’t see a physician in our directory that works for you? Several other organizations have identified top specialists that have the capability to perform a complete diagnostic evaluation and provide you with all of your treatment options.
FOR TRADITIONAL GERD SYMPTMOS AND HIATAL HERNIAS
This is a small group of GERD experts, gastroenterologists and surgeons, trained on the LINX Reflux Management System. Many were evaluated and reviewed by RefluxMD’s Senior Medical Advisor, Dr. Tom DeMeester. These specialists are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of GERD and they will provide their patients with all available treatment options, including surgery if appropriate.
FOR LPR OR SILENT REFLUX SYMPTOMS
Laryngopharyngeal reflux, or LPR, is a condition that can develop for anyone with GERD. This is a very difficult condition to diagnose and treat since there are many other conditions that have similar symptoms. Consequently, this requires a LPR specialist; better know as otolaryngologist, or ENT. We do not specialize in the ENTs, but our medical advisors believe that the Restech pH device is superior to other devices for diagnosing LPR, and RefluxMD believes that those doctors utilizing the Restech device are potentially more experienced with LPR.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE – BUILD YOUR PLAN TODAY
You have made an excellent decision to begin a relationship with a GERD expert. But you need to do more. Start today and build a plan that brings relief and hopefully reduce the risk of further disease progression. Here is what our medical advisors recommend:
Maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI) of 24 or less
Medical researchers and GERD experts all agree, the number one recommendation for any adult with a BMI over 27 is aggressive weight loss. For most GERD sufferers, this has a very high potential to reduce or eliminate their symptoms, and also reduce their risk of disease progression. If your BMI is 27 or higher, please consider Scale Down for Relief, a proven GERD-friendly program for optimal health.
Diet modifications and lifestyle changes.
If you do not address BMI, diet, and make the necessary lifestyle changes, all other efforts will only be temporary at best. We developed a comprehensive approach to an acid reflux diet that we encourage you to consider. Since it can be a challenge to develop a nutritional meal plan and diet on your own, we wrote RefluxMD’s Recipe for Relief, which includes a GERD-friendly diet, lifestyle change recommendations, 21-daily meal plans, and over 90 acid reflux friendly recipes.
Antacids, H2 blockers, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
Our medical advisors recommend using the lowest strength antireflux medication only as necessary. Unfortunately, the medical community recommends PPIs, such as Nexium and Prilosec, routinely. Dr. Tom DeMeester, one of the top global experts on this disease, wrote an important article that everyone should read; The warning on the label says use for 14 days.
Antireflux surgery and other therapeutic treatments.
When diet, weight management, lifestyle changes, and medications are unable to manage GERD symptoms to your satisfaction, you should consider an antireflux procedure. These procedures are designed to restore the LES, thereby reducing or eliminating symptoms and stopping disease progression. You can learn more about these procedures by clicking on “Procedures” under “LEARN” in our main navigation at the top of every page of our website.
